IRA Charitable

Rollover

Make a Gift to Vermont Education Scholarships Through Your IRA

If you are 70 ½ or older, you can make a tax-free gift to support The Curtis Fund scholarship recipients directly from your individual retirement account (IRA). Your donation will not be taxed and can satisfy your required minimum distribution (RMD), maximizing benefits to you while supporting scholarships. This is called a qualified charitable distribution (QCD).

Your charitable gift must be transferred from your IRA to the “Vermont Community Foundation – The Curtis Fund Mission-Aligned Fund”. By sending your gift to this account, held at the Vermont Community Foundation, you can fund scholarships. The mailing address is the same: 3 Court Street, Middlebury, Vermont 05753.

New in 2023, if you are 70 ½ or older you can make a one-time election of up to $50,000 to fund a Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) from your IRA. This type of donation can provide you with regular payments while supporting educational scholarships. While your gift does not qualify for a charitable gift, it can reduce your income tax liability and count toward all or part of your required minimum distributions (RMDs).

Leave a Legacy

Build a Future

The Curtis Fund Legacy Society

When you include The Curtis Fund in your will or name The Curtis Fund as a beneficiary you are making a lasting gift to help future Vermonters earn their education. It’s a simple way to make a meaningful gift that costs nothing during your lifetime. And often, people can make a much larger gift in their will than they could from their income. Also, some planned gifts allow you to receive lifetime/retirement income, tax deductions and/or estate benefits. We have experts who can work with you to help you make a gift.

What giving

means

Erika Lamb

“As a first-generation college student, growing up in rural Randolph, VT, I could never have imagined how much of an impact earning a college degree would have on my life.”
